Stunted Growth

*KAPOW*

And with that, I break the eerie silence that has befallen my precious blog over the last month. I have excuses. Many excuses.

First of all, the political market has been stagnant since the last debate. So, I'd be waiting for the next debate to occur so I could give my usual profane-yet-cleverly-observant rundown of the Democratic Catfight between Obama and Clinton. I swear, it's getting more and more like we're the children in a nasty divorce case; "Do you love mommy or daddy more? You know mommy's always been there for you!" This is especially poignant when you consider that if we don't settle this, we may end up living with Creepy Uncle McCain.

As usual, after the debate, I was reading through the word-for-word transcript in order to get the whole story, when I was suddenly and rudely cockblocked by the New York Times. Four pages into their 27-page typo, they suddenly decided that I had absorbed enough free information, and demanded that I subscribe to their website before I was allowed any further. Granted, online registration was free, but the principal of the thing left me thinking that it was time that my sympathy for the Victims of 9/11 came to an end.

So, I'm waiting now for some other blogger or news source, one that already has a NYT subscription, to repost the debate for me. It shouldn't take too long.

In the meantime, I haven't even filled the time with my usual one-man social discourse because I've been mentally deadlocked with any number of clusterbumps. Most notably: I am finally getting the fuck out of China. I've had it with this place and I'm leaving.

I face all the usual problems I've noted before; persecution over Child Support and Student Loan debts, shame and disgrace of a failed life choice, a newly stagnant economy, an increasingly overzealous idiocy on both sides of the isle, topped off with the same good ol' American Poverty that I had avoided the last two years.

But hey, it's better than China.

I still think that the main problem was in my choice of specific locale. Zhongshan is not a boom town for those looking to find their fortune. It's a great place for those who have the money to blow, or are happy with "just getting by." But any attempts to pull off a legitimate rise in one's own personal social status are not to be accomplished here. We should have put up shop in one of the big cities, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, or even Guangzhou. We might not have been able to coast so far on our Epic Whiteness, but we would have had a better chance to gain momentum on our actual talents in an actual city.

Anyway, I have paperwork to fill out, crap to pack, computers to backup, debts to pay off, and other such things that officially put me in "Transition Mode," which effectively makes me Creatively Stagnant. This will be my last post until I get plugged back into the grid in The States. When I do, I'll open with some really great "a black guy and a white chick walked into a public forum" jokes.

Smile Naked, America.
